Writers can take advantage of downtime during the day. The necessity for a more stable income may force them to make a decision. They can choose to work at nights or days when there is less demand for their services.

Night owls are people that have an innate tendency to be active at certain times of the day. This tendency is called circadian rhythm. Circadian rhythm is based on the body's need for sleep. People who tend to be active at different times of the day are called "circadian types."

Studies have shown that writers are typically both morning and evening types. This means that they are divided about how they feel most of the time. Even if one section of them likes to write late at night, another part of them might want to start working early in the morning. Night owls can compromise by starting their writing journey later and stopping it earlier than they intended to.

They might not feel like getting up early but once they start writing, they find it difficult to stop. Before they know it, the morning has come and gone and it's lunchtime! Night owls should try to fit in some daily writing time even if it's only for 20 minutes. This will help them keep the momentum going.

Is it better to write at night?

Good writers work at night because there are no distractions; there is nothing else to accomplish during the day; and there is no one else to rush to. Night is when you should be writing, not doing other things. It is also when your mind is clear of all thoughts other than those related to your story or project.

The more you write, the easier it will become. So start early and don't stop until you've written for a whole month. At that point, you'll have enough material to write about for another month.

If you want to be a good writer, do what good writers do. That is, spend some time each day writing, whether it's for ten minutes or two hours. But whatever time you can find, use it. Don't worry about wasting time: as Hemingway said, "There is no such thing as waste time: only unproductive time."

Now, if you want to be a great writer, then do what great writers do: they spend most of their time writing. But still, even they find ways to squeeze in time to write every day. They make sure to write for at least half an hour, but sometimes as much as three hours.

The more you write, the better you'll get.

Is it better to journal at night or in the morning?

Because the day hasn't yet begun, writing in the morning allows you to influence your thinking throughout the day. That's not to imply that journaling at night is a waste of time. It just doesn't serve the same purpose as writing first thing in the morning. When you're tired, you tend to ruminate on what has happened and what might happen. But when you start out fresh, everything seems more clear cut.

Even if you don't feel like doing anything but lying in bed staring at the wall, try to be active for at least half an hour a day. This will help you get into a habit that will last you for life.
