Alex Hirsch was the creator of Gravity Falls and a scriptwriter for the Cartoon Network series The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. Along with Maxwell Atoms, he created Fish Hooks for television. Clamantha, her father, Fumble, and one of the ferrets are all voiced by Hirsch. He also did some of the sound editing for the show.
He has said in interviews that he used to play bass in a band called Shapes Bend But Don't Break which explains why you sometimes see bass lines in his drawings.
Hirsch has also said that when he was younger he wanted to be a cartoonist but didn't think it was possible to make a living as one so he decided to write songs instead. He has cited David Bowie, Prince, and Stevie Wonder as influences on him musically.
He has also stated that he prefers being called Alex than Andy because it sounds like Edison when you say it quickly.
In addition to writing and drawing Fish Hooks, Hirsch wrote the screenplay for the 2008 film The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack which was directed by Steven Spielberg's son Max Spielberg. He also wrote an episode of Overw0rd which aired in 2013.

Hirsch was born on January 4th, 1975 in Southfield, Michigan. He grew up in Novi, Michigan and went to Northland High School before graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 1997. After graduation, he moved to Orlando, Florida to work on The Ren &; Stimpy Show as a character designer. He stayed with the show until it ended in 1999. Since then, he has worked on other projects including Rocko's Modern Life and Doug. In 2008, he became the new head of story under direction by Mark Henn for Disney's new cartoon series Gravity Falls. The show premiered on August 7th, 2010 and ended after three seasons on June 20th, 2013. Hirsch returned for two episodes at the end of its third season as well as a special episode titled "The Secret Origins of the Supreme Power".

He has worked on the show alongside Justin Roiland who plays Rick Sanchez. They have said that they are friends first and coworkers second which helps them avoid conflict between themselves and others involved with the show.
Hirsch has also praised Roiland for being one of the only people willing to take part in his projects.
Alex Hirsch is Judd Hirsch's oldest son, and he is fantastic! ... He has worked on several of his father's films including The Cooler (2015) and Daddy Long Legs (2019).
He is also a talented filmmaker himself, having directed the short film I Am Not Sidney Poitier which was selected as one of the Top 10 Short Films of 2008 by Indiewire. His first feature-length film will be released in 2020 called How To Talk To Girls At Parties.

In Fish Hooks, he played Oscar, and in Adventure Time, he played the Earl of Lemongrab. He is also the co-creator and executive producer of Rick and Morty, for which he voiced a number of characters. In the 2D-animated advertisements for Wienerschnitzel, Roiland played The Delicious One.
Grant and Jessica Parker star in the comedy Fish Out of Water as married actors going through a hard period.
