Stephen King has made significant contributions to the horror and thriller literature genres during the last five decades. Many people now refer to him as the "master of horror books," and he is widely regarded as one of the most well-known and successful horror writers of all time. He has been awarded both the Bram Stoker and International Horror Guild awards for best novel.
King was born on January 13, 1947 in Portland, Maine. He started writing at an early age under the name Steven King. In college, he began publishing short stories that were later compiled into his first book, three collections of short stories titled The Shining, Night Shift, and Ghost Story. The novel The Stand became his first success when it was released in 1978. Since then, he has gone on to publish more than 100 books, including novels, novellas, and short story collections. His books have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide and are translated into 56 languages.
As well as writing horror fiction, King has also written several other genres of literature including: detective stories with his Detective Book series; science fiction with his Dark Tower series; and historical novels with his Long Walk series.
In 2004, King announced that he was quitting mainstream fiction to focus on his career in horror full-time. To date, he has not stopped writing horror novels, and today we find out what new project he is working on.

King published his first novel, Carrie, at the age of 27. It was an immediate success and today stands as one of the most acclaimed horror novels of all time. Over the next three decades, he published a total of 13 more novels, which all share the same apocalyptic setting and are connected by several recurring characters and themes.
The Dark Tower series consists of nine novels and two collections set in a shared universe after the end of World War II until the present day. The stories follow Roland Deschain, who seeks to stop evil forces that are descending upon mankind and try to find a way to save the world once again.
In addition to writing books, King also writes screenplays for films that have all been successful with the exception of one: It! (1990). This horror film about a child murderer who finds himself trapped in a house with a small group of survivors is considered by many to be the worst movie ever made.
His other movies include The Shining, Stand By Me, Maximum Overdrive, and The Green Mile.
