You simply need to submit the article number or the amendment number, as applicable. The parenthetical citation is written as (US Const. Amend. XII, sec. 1).
The author-page standard is followed by the parenthetical citation or in-text citation in MLA style; it needs both the author's last name and the page number. The example below uses the author-page standard.
Annabel Lee (1807-1870) was an American poet known for her contributions to poetry of the early American republic. One of her best-known poems is "The Raven." It has been interpreted as a reflection on the death of Abraham Lincoln, who was murdered several months before its publication. It has also been suggested that the poem describes other events in the life of its author. The last line of the poem contains four syllables, including one short syllable and three long ones. This pattern is called a spondee, which is used often in epic poetry to indicate strong emotion.
She was born in Virginia but later moved with her parents to Kentucky where she grew up. She married at the age of 21 and had five children. Her husband died when he fell off his horse shortly after their wedding ceremony. She then went to live with her father in Richmond, Virginia. There she met and became friends with many famous people such as John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, and Jefferson Davis.
Instead of page numbers, utilize article/amendment and section numbers in the in-text citation. In MLA, how do you quote the Constitution?

When you allude to, summarize, paraphrase, or reference another source, provide a parenthetical citation. Every in-text reference in your work must be accompanied by a corresponding item in your Works Cited list. The MLA parenthetical citation style, for example, utilizes the author's last name and a page number; for example (Field 122). You can find out the location of published works by checking online research databases such as JSTOR or Google Scholar.
You should include the author's last name and page number in the parenthetical citation even if you are using multiple sources from the same author. For example, if you were to cite John Smith's book "A Book Review" three different times in your paper, each reference would require a separate parenthetical citation: once for when you are referencing the book review itself, again when citing the chapter it appears in, and finally when mentioning it as evidence among other sources.
In addition to the author's last name and page number, the parenthetical citation also requires a closing parenthesis and a period. These elements should be included within the text of your paper after making reference to the source but prior to any additional discussion or analysis of this source. An in-text citation in MLA should include the author's last name as well as the page number of the content you quote or reference. It is frequently placed at the conclusion of the phrase in parentheses. This example shows a typical in-text citation: John Smith, "A Modest Proposal: For Preventing Children from Being Stolen and Raised for Food", The Boston Gazette, May 20, 1745.
In this case, "Smith" is the author's last name, and the page number is included after the word "Modest". A question mark is often used to indicate a footnote entry; if there are multiple sources cited within the text, each one would be separated by a comma. In general, however, only the first citation in the text needs to be followed by an in-text citation. The second citation can be indicated simply by adding it into the main body of the essay using its actual title or author name instead of a number.
Citations are important in academic writing because they give credit to the authors who have gone before you. Without citations, your work would be nothing more than a collection of words on a page. Although you should always exercise common sense when referencing other people's work, errors can occur during in-text citations.
