To give you an idea, the average person reads 200–250 words per minute, which equates to 30 pages each hour. I recently finished a 365-page book. Even after removing the blank and index pages, it was close to 350 pages. This book took me about 9 hours to complete in 4 days.
The first thing you should know is that how long it takes you to read depends on how quickly you can comprehend what you're reading as well as how interested you are in the material. For example, if you're someone who needs time to think about what you're reading before you understand it, then reading for pleasure isn't really your cup of tea.
Readers who rate books 1 to 5 stars in length on Amazon/Goodreads/etc. Average about 20 minutes per page. Those who rate books 6 to 10 stars read about 35 minutes per page. And those who rate books 11 stars or more read for about 55 minutes per page. There are many factors that determine how long it takes you to read including your age, IQ, background knowledge, motivation, interest, and so on.
In general, the faster you can understand new information and apply it to what you already know, the better reader you'll be. This means that students who read at grade level or above will be able to read faster than readers who don't do well academically.
We can simply calculate this arithmetic problem if you type 60 words per minute and your book is the typical novel length of 70,000 words. 70,000 words per hour multiplied by 60 words equals 1,167 minutes. Let us now turn those minutes into hours. To get the writing time, just convert minutes to hours. So, it takes about 1,167 minutes or 16.7 hours to write a 70,000 word novel.
If you type at a slower rate of 45 words per minute, then the writing time increases to 2 hours 30 minutes. At 30 words per minute, the writing time is almost 4 hours.
Clearly, more words mean longer writing times. However, there are other factors that may limit how fast you can write such as difficulty of the material, your level of expertise, etc. A professional writer could possibly write faster than I did above because they would have better tools and be more experienced.
Mental readers often read at a rate of 250 words per minute. Auditory readers read at a rate of about 450 words per minute. Visual readers read at a rate of about 700 words per minute.
