A single sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 notebook paper weighs around 16 ounces. A standard size notebook, with two sheets of paper in it, would weigh about 32 ounces.
Note that this is weight without packaging. If you want to include the bag itself, then the total weight is more like 40 ounces (1090 grams).
The density of paper is roughly 0.5 g/cm3, which means that a sheet of paper has a mass of 50 grams per m2. For an 8 1/2 x 11-inch sheet, this comes out to 56.25 ounces or 160 grams.
If you want to include the bag itself, then the total weight is more like 70 ounces (1820 grams).

The first notebooks were made from handmade papers that were colored using dyes or pigments. The early Chinese used colors that came from plants and minerals while the Europeans at first used natural dyes such as madder for red and cochineal for blue. As these materials began to run out, synthetic dyes were created which are still used today. Notebooks with covers made from leather or cloth are also available. These can be as heavy as 14 ounces (400 grams) each.
In 1866, the first all-wooden notebook was manufactured. It weighed about 30 pounds (14 kg). Today's woodnote books range in weight from 100 to over 200 pounds (45 to 90 kg).
The first metal notebook was produced in 1890. It weighed about 6 pounds (3 kg). Modern metalnotebooks range in weight from 150 to more than 300 pounds (70 to 130 kg).
Notebooks have been made from various other materials including bamboo, plastic, and cardboard but they aren't considered part of the traditional market for handwritten notes.
In both English and French, this amount is known as grammage (ISO 536), while printers in most English-speaking nations still refer to paper's "weight." Because standard office paper weighs 80 g/m2 (0.26 oz/sq ft), a typical A4 sheet (1/16 of a square metre) weighs 5 g. (0.18 oz).
The term "sheet" is used here to indicate a piece of paper that is not torn or cut from its original roll. The actual weight of such a sheet will vary depending on how it is made and what kind of material it is composed of. For example, a sheet of copy paper is usually much lighter than a sheet of bond paper, which in turn is usually much lighter than a sheet of computer chip paper.
Sheets are usually specified by length when they are used in place of wire or by quantity when they serve as wrapping for packages. For example, a sheet of paper can be 20 inches long or 200 sheets; a parcel cannot be larger than an average-size filing cabinet, so it must be divided into parcels no greater than that size.

Paper, of course, comes in a variety of forms and sizes, from sticky notes to legal paper. This can alter the weight of the paper, as larger sheets weigh more. Six average-sized sheets of paper, on the other hand, weigh around one ounce. If you have half-sheets, you can match that weight with 12 sheets.
Fifty grams is a small amount of weight. It weighs slightly under 2 ounces and weighs less than a quarter of a pound. Finding common objects that weigh this much or that little can be challenging, but we were able to come up with several products and establish similarities between them. We divided them into three categories: food, currency, and home things.
1 ounce is 28.50 grams by definition. 11 pennies, six nickels, twelve dimes, and five quarters weigh roughly one ounce of American coins. A matchbox-sized piece of cheese and around three and a half French fries also weigh about 1 ounce.
A normal #2 writing instrument weighs 0.2-0.3 ounces (oz), which is equal to 0.0125 pounds (lbs), 6-7 grams (g), or 0.006 kilograms (kg). On digital scales, a normal unsharpened pencil with an unused eraser was weighed. The result was recorded to the nearest hundredth of an ounce.
Pencil weights vary depending on the type of weight used to sharpen them. A standard mechanical pencil sharpener uses a metal shaft with a handle at one end and a series of holes along its length. When the shaft is rotated, it causes the metal to cut into the wood of the pencil case or holder. This produces a thin piece of metal that can be easily removed and reused.
There are several types of mechanical pencil sharpeners available on the market today. Some are designed to work with specific types of mechanical pencils, while others will fit most brands of mechanical pencils. They all function pretty much the same way except for the size of the hole in the shaft of the device. If you own several different types of mechanical pencil sharpeners, it may help to label them so you do not mix up which one is which.
The smallest diameter hole that will accommodate a standard mechanical pencil lead is 1/8 inch (1.5 mm). Any smaller hole will not hold the lead tight enough to produce a point when pressed down onto paper.
