What are some interesting details about her/his history? Think about how each character influences the story and what type of person would be drawn to his or her personality.
Now, you need to take everything you've learned about your characters and apply it to their physical appearance. For example, if one of your characters is young, have him/her wear clothes that show off their youth and agility (such as jeans, a T-shirt, and tennis shoes). If they are older, give them clothes that reflect this (i.e., slacks, a dress shirt, and loafers or boots). As you can see, presenting your characters in an authentic manner is very important in creating a believable story.
In addition to describing their physical traits, writers should also include notes on their personalities. Are they friendly or quiet? Active or lazy? It's helpful to understand their motivations because only then can you explain why they act like they do. For example, if one of your characters is young and innocent, he/she might behave that way due to experience or knowledge.
