According to the MLA (Modern Language Association), each page of an essay, including the first, should have the writer's last name and the page number as a header in the top right corner of the page, as seen below: The heading should not be put in place of the text of your papers. It is used only to give an overview of what will follow.
This header should appear on every page of your paper, except the front cover. If you are writing a long paper with multiple sections, it is important to give each section a unique title so that readers can find what they're looking for easily. For example, if you were writing on the American Revolution, a reasonable title for your paper might be "How Americans Fared During the Revolutionary War."
In addition to giving your paper a title, you should also use a sub-header on each page. These provide additional information about the topic at hand without taking up too much space. They are also useful for grouping ideas or topics that relate to one another but that would otherwise be difficult to identify by just reading the main header.
For example, let's say that you were writing an essay on how Americans view their role in society today and that you wanted to include some information about crime in your paper. You could create a sub-header for this idea like this: "Crime in America: Down But Not Out," to show that crime is down but not out entirely defeated.
As a "header," provide your name and the page number. Do not write this information in the place where your essay's text should be. A title should be included in your essay. The title should be centered and appear above the first line of your essay, under the header information on the first page. Some writers like to include their surname after their name for identification purposes.
The body of the essay should discuss the topic given in the invitation and offer evidence to support its inclusion in any list. Start with a clear objective or question and make your points clearly enough for others to follow them - they may not be able to read your mind! Avoid giving opinions as facts when writing research papers. Opinions are not facts and cannot be proved or disproved; only facts can. Opinions can be proven true or false though, so consider what other people have to say and use your best judgment to come up with your own opinion.
Don't forget to include a conclusion section at the end of your essay. It should restate your main idea and point out how well it has been supported by the evidence you have presented. Don't worry about being original or creative in your conclusion - it is better if it repeats some of the ideas from your introduction rather than trying to explain something new - but do make sure it is accurate. If you have quoted someone directly, refer to them by name and give credit where it is due.
