For example, one can interpret line three as saying that "though the heart be free of hate, it still will tremble / Like a wounded bird on a wire." This verse tells us that even if we are at peace with others, our hearts will still be filled with pain and regret because we know that life is short. We should never take death for granted.
Another example: When asked why he killed himself, Thomas replied, "Because I was a genius." Some scholars have suggested that this statement means that you should kill yourself if you are a genius, but this seems like a strange thing for him to say.
