Introduction
The Aeneid is the oldest surviving major work of Latin literature. It was probably written between 47 and 30 BC. The Aeneid is regarded as one of the masters of ancient Epic Poetry.
Aeneas is a central character in the Aeneid. He is a prince from Troy who escapes from the city during its destruction by fire and finds refuge with Venus, the goddess of love. She transforms him into a human being. Aeneas then travels around the world before reaching Italy where he establishes a new city that will one day become Rome. The story follows Aeneas as he encounters many challenges including war, death, and sacrifice. In the end, he succeeds in his mission and returns home to be with his family once more.

Some scholars think that since the Aeneid is such a great poem that it must be true to life which means that it could never die even though people might forget it over time just like other poems have been forgotten.
Virgil wrote the Aeneid when he was about 70 years old.
