Betty Hart and Todd R. Risley invented the term "30-million-word gap" (commonly abbreviated to just "word gap") in their book Meaningful Differences in the Everyday Experience of Young American Children, which was then reproduced in the article "The Early Catastrophe: The 30 Million Word Gap by Age 3." The pair claimed that during the first three years of life, most children experience a dramatic loss in language ability. They also claimed that this loss is particularly severe for young children from low-income families, suggesting that it may be impossible for them to recover some aspects of their lost skills.
However, other researchers have since disputed these findings, calling into question the actual size of the word gap and its severity. For example, one study conducted by Susan Goldin-Meadow et al. (1997) found only small differences between poor and well-off children in terms of their vocabulary sizes. Another study published in 2003 concluded that there is no evidence to support the claim that the word gap is responsible for inhibiting children's intellectual development or that it affects certain groups of children more than others.
As you can see, there are many questions surrounding the origin of the word gap and how it affects young children. However, what we do know is that it has become an important topic for scientists who want to understand how children learn new words and how they develop their speaking abilities.
GAP, which stands for "generation gap," soon acquired popularity in the United States, expanding 25 stores throughout the country in its first four years and raking in approximately $15 million in yearly sales (equal to $85 million today). Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, GAP was hip and doing well. It had celebrity endorsements, such as James Dean and Paul Newman, and was even named one of the best-dressed brands by Women's Wear Daily.

Finally, in 2004, GAP said it would stop opening new stores and would instead focus on closing down under-performing ones. However, there have still been closures in recent years as well, including all of its locations in Canada.
Many authors use the whole term in the text and either m or M and bn in tables and brackets when writing about millions and billions. A space is usually used before million, but not before m or M. This is because there are no powers of 1000 between 1 and 2 million--or even between 1 and 100 million. Using "million" instead of "billion" results in inaccurate figures.
When writing about billions, using m/M and bn is more accurate than using billion without units. Of course, you can also use unit names if you want to be precise. But using numbers alone doesn't pose any problems for most writers.
However, raising successful children may come down to something you can't buy: words. And the magic number is 30,000. Most parents understand the importance of reading to their children early and frequently. Few people realize, however, that speaking to them is as vital for reading and language achievement. Talking with kids about what they are reading enables them to make connections between the text and their own lives which helps them comprehend it better later on.
In fact, research shows that listening to adults read aloud to children promotes literacy development. It also helps children learn vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. The more often adults speak with children about what they are reading, the better these children will do on standardized tests later in life.
So start talking with your children about what they are reading. This way, they will learn not only how to read but also how to listen, think critically, and communicate effectively.

When utilizing regular margins (1 inch) and 12 pt font, a 30,000 word count will provide around 60 pages single-spaced or 120 pages double-spaced.
