Childhood is a place you never want to leave. It is our first nation, which we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. This little poem recalls a summer when I was eight years old, spent on the banks of the Lorette River in Quebec. It's undoubtedly the most beautiful river in Canada since it's where I spent my youth. At the age of eight, one can fall in love. For me it was all about the rocks along the riverbank. They were bright green against the blue-black water. And they smelled so good! The woods around me were full of life: frogs, birds, wild animals. I felt very safe there and didn't worry about anything except catching fish to eat on my way home from school by bike each day.
Canada is an amazing place to live in, with plenty of nature to look at and do. We have mountains, lakes, forests, just like anywhere else, but we're also close to the ocean, which people sometimes forget. It's because of these two things that Canada has so many beautiful places to visit. There are lots of cities too, including Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.
We also have some really interesting history too. France and England had a battle for control of North America, which ended up being won by Canada. So even though we have French and English names for some places, such as Montréal and Ottawa, we are actually speaking French and English here. In the past, there were also problems between Aboriginal peoples and settlers, but today everyone gets on well together in Canada.
